26A Celebrating Failure

CELEBRATING FAILURE

This semester was pretty light academically, but I failed on several occasions to follow through on plans with friends that I have from back home.  Although life gets busy and everyone understands that, I try my best to be a man of my word.  I have never been a fan of empty promises or hollow suggestions to "hang out" when I know the person does not mean it.  Although this is a pretty small, harmless example, I'm disappointed in myself for making plans with people and never following up.  Failure is an essential part of life, and one that I feel UF students, in particular, have a difficult time with.  Failure forces us (hopefully) to confront our deficiencies and discern where we went wrong and how to do better in the future.  There is a fine line between acknowledging our failures and learning from them, and dwelling on our failures and living in the past.  This we must not do.  I have a tendency toward this, and I can say confidently that it is detrimental and takes a lot of joy away.

  1. It happens to everyone! People constantly tell me they want to hang out, and then never capitalize on that offer, it's just how us busy people work. I also tend to dwell on failures, but you're right; it's important to build and grow rather than take damage and do nothing from it.
